Renaissance Farms is a 286 acre site nestled in Barre, Massachusetts. The farm is being completely redesigned using the permaculture model. From a once-abandoned farm, we are working to re-create a working farm that honours its history, restores the land, preserves heirloom plants and heritage breeds, cares for its owners, and benefits the community by serving as a gathering place and a living classroom. Features will include natural buildings, fruit orchards, heirloom vegetables, apiaries and sugarbush, cultivated and wild-harvested culinary and medicinal plants, cut flower and decorative gardens, lavender and hay crops, as well as heritage breeds of sheep, pigs, poultry and fowl, renewable energy systems, and more.
Our purpose is to offer classes and workshops in various self-reliance skills including permaculture farming and gardening, preservation, and handcrafts. We also offer Catholic family life programs, and plan to host many other events ranging from performances to demonstrations, fêtes, and fairs.
